127 questioned over stabbing case so far

PETALING JAYA: A total of 127 people have had their statements recorded in the investigation into the murder of a female student in Bandar Utama.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said the pathology report is expected to take between one and three months to complete.

In the tragedy on Tuesday, Form Three student Yap Shing Xuen, 16, was fatally stabbed in her school compound around 9.30am. A 14-year-old male student has been remanded to assist in the probe.

Police have also seized a curved blade and two knives from the suspect.

Meanwhile, a steady stream of mourners continued to bid farewell to Shing Xuen on the third day of her wake yesterday.

Inside the memorial hall, teachers and students sat together, speaking softly of grief and friendship – a reminder of how deeply the tragedy had touched the school community.

Outside, small groups of adults were heard discussing the need for greater attention to students’ emotional well-being in the days ahead.

Politicians and community leaders were among those who paid their respects to Shing Xuen.

They included Selangor executive councillor Ng Sze Han, MCA veterans Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun and Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look, as well as MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong.

Chong said the tragedy had deeply saddened him.

“It is very painful because it happened so close to my home.

“This should serve as a reminder for all of us not to take things lightly, especially when it concerns our children’s safety,” he said.

Expressing his deepest condolences to Shing Xuen’s family, Chong also extended his sympathy to the parents of the suspect.

“We feel for both families. No parent would ever wish for such a tragedy.

“The suspect’s parents have apologised profusely, and we must understand that they too are suffering,” he said.

He urged everyone to respect the privacy of both families as they grieve.

“Please give them space. The families need time to heal. Our hearts are with them, and we hope they find peace,” he added.
