New measures to ensure safety at schools to be announced shortly, says Fadhlina

PETALING JAYA: Measures will be taken to ensure a safe environment at schools, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

"It feels as though there are no holidays as we are currently intensifying efforts to ensure a safe school ecosystem," she said in a Facebook page on Tuesday (Oct 20).

"I held a meeting and debriefing session with the psychosocial support team, which is carrying out crisis intervention to assist affected school communities and provide mental health support.

"Discussions were also held with the Education Ministry on efforts to improve school safety and student discipline, in line with the Cabinet's decision," she said, adding the new measures would be announced shortly.

On Oct 14, 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen was fatally stabbed, allegedly by a 14-year-old boy at SMK Bandar Utama 4 in Petaling Jaya.
