Penang doctor charged with molesting foreign women


GEORGE TOWN: A doctor was charged in two Magistrates’ Courts with four counts of molestation and indecent assault involving two foreign women in February.

Dr Goon Hoong Tatt, 43, from Penang Hospital, pleaded not guilty to all the charges before magistrates Nur Fadrina Zulkhairi and Muhammad Amzar Ismail yesterday.

In the court before Nur Fadrina, Dr Goon was charged with two counts of intending to insult the modesty of one of the foreign women by ordering her to undress and instructing her to stand and run around naked.

The charges were framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum impri­sonment of five years, a fine or both, upon conviction, Bernama reported.

He was also charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code with using criminal force against the woman with the intent to outrage her modesty by touching her breast.

The offence carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, whipping or any two of these punishments, upon conviction.

All the offences were allegedly committed in the clinical examination room of the Penang Hospital Forensic Department between 9.15pm and 9.30pm on Feb 20.

Dr Goon was granted bail of RM3,500 for each charge and ordered not to disturb the victim or witnesses.

Deputy public prosecutor Lau Shavin appeared for the prosecution.

Meanwhile, in the court before magistrate Muhammad Amzar, Dr Goon was charged with intending to insult the modesty of ano­ther foreign woman by asking her to run around naked in the same location at 9.30pm on Feb 26.

The magistrate granted him bail of RM7,000 and ordered him not to intimidate any witnesses.

Dr Goon was represented by lawyer N. Tishalini, while deputy public prosecutor Siti Nur Farihin Ahmad appeared for the prosecution.

Both magistrates fixed Nov 27 for mention.
