Cops still at scene where UM student fell to death, probe ongoing

PETALING JAYA: The police are still investigating the location where a 22-year-old student fell to his death at a residential college in Universiti Malaya on Friday (Oct 17).

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said the police are still at the scene to investigate the cause.

"I confirm the incident occurred at about 3.15pm.

"The victim was rushed to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) but died while receiving treatment at about 4.25pm," he said when contacted Friday.

A post-mortem will be conducted on Friday night, he added.

"A detailed investigation is currently underway, and it is premature for us to make any assumptions," he said.

It is learnt that the victim was a final-year Applied Science (Islamic Studies) student from the Academy of Islamic Studies and he was found lying on the ground floor of his residential block.

Earlier, UM issued a statement on the incident and offered condolences to the victim's family.

The university also vowed full support for the family.

“The entire UM community expresses its deepest sorrow and condolences to the family of the deceased.

"The university, through the Student Affairs Department, is providing full support and assistance to the family," it said.
