Van driver fined RM8,000 for reckless driving

IPOH: A 43-year-old company van driver was fined RM8,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here after pleading guilty to a charge of driving recklessly and damaging seven vehicles at the Ipoh Railway station.

Magistrate Anis Hanini Abdullah handed down the sentence on R. Vikneshwaran, and ordered him to serve two months in jail if he fails to pay the fine. He paid the fine.

“Your traffic offence will be recorded on your driving licence,” she said yesterday.

Vikneshwaran admitted to driving the van without due care and attention to other road users at 2.54am on Oct 5 at the compound of the station.

Section 43(1) of the Road Transport act 1987, under which he was charged, provides for a fine of between RM5,000 and RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both, upon conviction.
