Sabah polls: EC opens applications for election observers

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has opened applications for government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and interested bodies to serve as election observers for the 17th Sabah State Election.

The EC, in a statement on Thursday (Oct 9), said that election observers would have the opportunity to monitor the election process from nomination day till the announcement of election results.

"Applications to become election observers are open starting today. The closing date for applications will be announced after the special EC meeting on the Sabah elections," the statement read.

The special meeting, scheduled for Oct 16, will decide the important dates for the election and other related matters.

On Monday, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution of the Sabah State Assembly, which warrants a state election to be held within the next 60 days.

Further information about the application as election observers is available at https://www.spr.gov.my. – Bernama
