Suspect trafficking vessel collides with police boat in Gelang Patah

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A boat carrying 10 foreigners collided with a marine police boat on Wednesday (Oct 8) at 3.58am.

The collision took place at the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement (MMEA) Jetty at Gelang Patah near here.

The Johor Baru Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) said they received information on the incident via Mers 999 and immediately deployed a team to the scene at 4.07am.

“The crash involved nine Indonesian nationals, four women and five men, as well as a Rohingya man,’’ APM said in a statement on the same day

The statement added that the 10 foreigners were reported safe, adding they received early treatment from APM before being sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Baru.

Apart from APM, the operation to rescue the boat passengers also involved MMEA, police and paramedic teams.

Meanwhile, Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said they suspect the case involves immigrant trafficking.

“We are investigating the case,’’ he said.
