Police probing viral video of 4WD with Hebrew sticker in Melaka

MELAKA: A viral video of a four-wheel-drive vehicle with Hebrew writing on its rear has prompted a police investigation.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 14-second clip shows a vehicle with a sticker with Hebrew words.

He said the words translate to “Malaysia is our home” or “Malaysia in our hands.”

“A police report was made on Tuesday (Oct 7) by a special religious officer to the Melaka Chief Minister,” he said on Wednesday (Oct 8).

Hebrew is one of Israel’s national languages.

Dzulkhairi said preliminary checks found the vehicle is registered to a man from Gemencheh, Negri Sembilan.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.

“The case is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he added.

He said the section covers improper use of network facilities or services with penalties of up to RM50,000, one year’s jail or both.

Dzulkhairi urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified claims about the video.

He said police will conduct a transparent, thorough investigation to maintain public safety and harmony.

“The police will continue to ensure that the peace and unity of our society remain safeguarded,” he said.
