Budi95 now covers fishermen, boat owners and new drivers

PUTRAJAYA: Eligibility under the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) targeted subsidy scheme has been expanded to cover three new groups, benefitting more than 31,000 Malaysians nationwide.

The Finance Ministry said the expansion covered over 17,900 fishermen registered with the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM), over 4,300 private boat owners registered with the Sabah Ports and Harbours Department, and over 9,700 new driving licence holders recorded by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

“With this expansion, they are now among over 16 million Malaysians enjoying the subsidised RON95 fuel price of RM1.99 per litre, compared with RM2.60 per litre without subsidy,” the ministry said yesterday, Bernama reported.

The government is finalising additional data involving unlicensed boat users in other states, mainly in Sabah and Sarawak, it added.

The ministry also said discussions between the Land Public Transport Agency and e-hailing operators are being coordinated to implement an increase in the monthly fuel eligibility ceiling of over 300 litres for full-time e-hailing drivers.

The measure is to ensure that the livelihoods of full-time e-hailing drivers are not affected by the implementation of the targeted subsidy scheme.

“The government remains committed to ensuring that this targeted subsidy programme is implemented efficiently and transparently and continues to deliver direct benefits to the people,” it said.
