PUTRAJAYA: The meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was productive, says Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
“We covered a wide range of matters on bilateral relations and other international matters, and I am very happy our views converge on almost all important issues,” he said.
He spoke at a joint press conference with Anwar on Monday (Oct 6).
Muhammad Shehbaz said he is grateful to Anwar for considering Pakistan’s proposal to export up to US$200 million worth of beef products to Malaysia.
He said market pricing will regulate imported beef from Pakistan and meet halal certifications required by Malaysian customs and the Malaysian food authority.
“We will make all possible efforts to meet your terms and conditions,” he said.
“God willing, we will achieve not only the quota for US$200 million, but in time it will increase because when consumers are happy, I think the sky is the limit,” he added.
Earlier, the ceremony saw the signing of memoranda of understanding between Malaysia and Pakistan on cooperation in higher education.
It also included MoUs on tourism, halal certification and cooperation in combating and preventing corruption.
The ceremony also saw an MoU between Pakistan’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority and SME Corporation Malaysia, and an Exchange of Notes on diplomat training.
After the press conference at Perdana Putra, Anwar hosted a luncheon in honour of Muhammad Shehbaz at Seri Perdana.
Muhammad Shehbaz is in Malaysia for a three-day official visit, his first as Pakistani prime minister, beginning October 5.
Last year, total trade between Malaysia and Pakistan reached RM8.07bil, an increase of 25.5% from the previous year.
