KUALA LUMPUR: There will be no compromise with individuals who flout the law during rallies in the capital, says city police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus (pic).
He said the police respect the right to free speech and peaceful assembly, but participants must comply with instructions from the authorities.

"Rallies are not held on private premises but in public areas with high traffic flow. Public safety and well-being must be prioritised.
"Yesterday, there were individuals who defied police instructions. I want to stress that I will not tolerate any breaches of the rules, and stern action will be taken against offenders," he told reporters here on Friday (Oct 3).
He added that every directive issued by Royal Malaysia Police personnel on the ground represents the force and must be obeyed.
"We remain neutral and assist organisers to ensure rallies run smoothly. However, any actions that could cause disruptions or safety concerns must be avoided.

"Our objective is clear – to safeguard public security, the well-being of the people, including tourists, and to prevent any untoward incidents," he said.
He also reminded non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals intending to hold gatherings to adhere strictly to the law and procedures set by the authorities.
"All parties must comply so that rallies can proceed without negative consequences. We do not want the perception that the authorities are opposing organisers.
"Regardless of whether it is an NGO or an individual, everyone must follow the rules," he said.
On Thursday (Oct 2), two men were arrested following a scuffle during a pro-Palestine rally outside the US Embassy on Jalan Tun Razak here.
The rally, which began at noon and drew about 50 participants, turned tense when some participants reportedly tried to block traffic in front of the embassy.
In the incident, a police officer sustained injuries to his mouth while carrying out crowd control after being elbowed by a participant.
Police later detained two men, aged 23 and 32, for obstructing a public servant from performing his duty.
