Motorist dies in seven-vehicle pile-up in Batu Pahat

BATU PAHAT: A motorist has died after the vehicle he was driving was involved in an accident where a lorry ploughed into six other vehicles here.

Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Hafizul Adzrin said they received a distress call at 10.06am on Tuesday (Sept 30) about the incident in front of the Sabak Uni mosque on Jalan Kluang-Batu Pahat.

"The crash involved seven vehicles including a trailer, two lorries, three cars and a multi-purpose vehicle.

"When 14 firemen arrived at the scene 13 minutes later, we found an unidentified male victim pinned underneath the trailer," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said a crane was used to lift the lorry and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The victim's body was later handed over to the police for further action.

"The seven other injured victims were rushed to the hospital. Four others in the vehicles involved escaped unharmed," he said.
