Manjung petrol station director fined RM30,000 for illegal diesel sale

IPOH: A petrol station director was fined RM30,000 by the Sessions Court for illegally selling an excessive amount of diesel last year.

Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad imposed the fine on Chew Jo Seng, 30, after he pleaded guilty.

He was charged under Section 12A of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, an offence under Regulation 21(1) and punishable under Section 22(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Chew, a licensed dealer, allegedly sold 1,395.348 litres of diesel worth RM3,000 to a lorry with a modified tank.

The offence occurred at a petrol station on Jalan Sitiawan, Ayer Tawar in Manjung at 9am on Feb 2, 2024.

His licence only permits the sale of up to 250 litres of diesel in a single daily transaction into a vehicle's original tank.

Chew, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lower fine, stating he supports his parents and has a housing loan.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Nazreen Zabarudin requested the RM30,000 fine as a deterrent.

He said it would serve as a lesson to the accused and the public.

Judge Ainul Shahrin set the fine at RM30,000 with a 12-month jail term in default.
