Dress code for concert performers, not fans

PETALING JAYA: The new concert dressing guidelines apply only to performing artistes, not concertgoers, says the Communications Ministry.

“The Puspal committee would like to stress that the Puspal guidelines 6.0 only set the dress codes and ethics for performing artistes.

“It does not prescribe any dress code or ethics for those attending as audience,” the ministry’s Unit for Application for Foreign Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal) committee clarified in a statement yesterday.

The committee said its statement on attire for concertgoers was meant as advice and recommendations, made in cooperation with the organisers.

It said the main focus of the guidelines is to ensure that the dress and behaviour of performing artistes are in line with the sensitivities of Malaysia’s multiracial society and to help preserve national harmony.

“While the guidelines primarily focus on organisers and performers, they do indirectly extend to audience conduct through the organisers’ obligations,” the committee said, quoting the ministry’s deputy secretary-general (strategic communications and creative industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin.

The committee also advised organisers to ensure safety and crowd control by monitoring alcohol and drug use before, during and after performances to prevent untoward incidents.

For more information on the guidelines, visit Puspal’s official website or contact the Puspal Unit at 03-8911 5356/5384 or puspal@komunikasi.gov.my.
