Firefighters free man’s hand from meat grinder in Chemor

IPOH: Perak Fire and Rescue Department successfully freed a man’s right hand from a meat grinder in Chemor on Friday night (Sept 19).

The department’s acting assistant operations director, Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah, said the 41-year-old victim was still conscious when the firemen arrived at the location on Jalan Silang 3, following a distress call at 8.17pm.

He said rescuers found the man’s hand stuck inside the machine, and he was in considerable pain.

“The medical team was called in to administer anaesthesia to the victim before firefighters proceeded with the rescue.

“Our team dismantled the machine by unscrewing its base and manually turning the grinder gear in reverse until the victim’s hand was freed,” he said in a statement on Friday.

He said the operation, involving nine personnel and two vehicles, was brought under control at 9.40pm and concluded at 9.50pm.

The victim was handed over to medical personnel and sent to the hospital in an ambulance for further treatment.
