Thousands of unregistered antipsychotic medications seized at KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR: Thousands of unregistered antipsychotic medications have been seized after a shipment was halted by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection (AKPS).

In a statement today, the AKPS announced that the shipment was seized yesterday at the Pos Malaysia International Hub within Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The shipment was due to be delivered to an individual based in Klang.

"Among the seized medications includes 3,000 pills of Xanax worth RM15,000 and 420 pills of Stilnox worth RM2,100.

"The pharmaceutical enforcement team stresses that any unregistered medication that has yet to undergo quality and safety checks by the Health Ministry has the potential to cause dangerous side effects and threaten the lives of users," it said.

AKPS added that it will not compromise on any attempt to smuggle such medication into the country.
