SHAH ALAM: The syllabus for the Reserve Officers’ Training Unit (Palapes) will undergo review to ensure the training module remain relevant to current needs, says Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari.
He said the review must place emphasis on shaping students’ identity while also preparing them to shoulder responsibilities as part of the national defence force.
His ministry will work closely with the Higher Education Ministry to update Palapes’ syllabus and training modules, Adly said, Bernama reported.
Palapes is a military training programme designed for undergraduates, with the aim of commissioning them as reserve officers in the Armed Forces.
“Palapes is one of our key sources of defence personnel and officers. We regularly discuss the implementation of Palapes programme and whenever issues arise, we work to improve them.
“We will also review several regulations. Safety remains our top priority, as military training involves many physical aspects.
“Health and related factors will also be taken into account,” Adly said when met after officiating the Selangor Amanah convention.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said last Thursday that his ministry would enhance the curriculum and training content to encourage more Palapes cadets to join the Armed Forces.
