Woman detained over suspected arson at Kluang home


KLUANG: A 46-year-old woman has been detained to assist in investigations into an arson case that destroyed a house here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said police received a report on the incident at about 5.30am, which occurred at a house on Jalan Permai, Taman Sri Permai early on Friday (Sept 5) morning.

“The incident is believed to have occurred around 3.30am after the victim heard the sound of an object being thrown into the house.

Checks later found that the compound of the house and a car were destroyed by fire. Papers with handwritten threats were also discovered at the scene,” he said in a statement.

He said investigations led to the arrest of the suspect in Bandar Seri Alam, Masai, Johor Baru.

The woman did not have a criminal record and tested negative for drugs.

The suspect has been remanded until September 12 for investigation under Sections 435 and 506 of the Penal Code.

ACP Bahrin urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist the investigation by contacting the Kluang district police headquarters at 07-7784222.
