JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Immigration Department detained 96 illegal immigrants during an enforcement operation conducted around Iskandar Puteri and Kulai on Sept 3.
Its director, Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus, said the operation involved officers from the Enforcement Division and the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar.
He said that based on intelligence and monitoring, the Immigration Department found that those detained were working and residing in Malaysia without a valid permit or pass.
"A total of 199 locals and foreigners were inspected during the operations, which were carried out across 43 premises. Of these, 96 people were detained, comprising two Malaysian men, 38 Bangladeshi, 15 Indonesian, 12 Myanmar, and six Pakistani nationals.
"Also detained were four Indian nationals, two Vietnamese, one Nepalese, one Thai, 10 Myanmar women, and five Indonesian women, all aged between 18 and 61," he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 5).
He said all of those detained were suspected of committing offences under Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(6) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
Meanwhile, another foreign national, who was acting as the manager of the premises, was detained under Section 55E of the Immigration Act 1959/63, while two locals were held under Section 56(1)(d) of the same law for allegedly protecting foreigners.
All detainees were placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further investigation and action. - Bernama
