Singaporean man remanded for allegedly molesting stepdaughter in Melaka

JASIN: A 56-year-old Singaporean man has been remanded for five days by the Magistrate’s Court here on suspicion of molesting his stepdaughter.

Magistrate Mazana Sinin issued the order on Tuesday (Sept 2) against the unemployed man until Sept 6 to assist investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

According to police sources, the case surfaced after a quarrel between the victim and her sister at the family’s home in Kampung Ayer Baruk here, during which the victim is said to have disclosed the alleged incident that took place at 11.30pm on June 27, 2023.

The victim, aged 15, also narrated her ordeal to her 56-year-old mother on the same day.

Her elder sister, aged 17, also later claimed that she had experienced similar behaviour from the suspect, sometime early this year.

The victim, who is the youngest of five siblings, subsequently lodged a police report at the Jasin Police Station at about 1pm on Sept 1.

Acting on the report, a team from the Melaka police headquarters (IPK) arrested the man on the same day.
