KUALA LUMPUR: The lawyer representing Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Reserve Officers’ Training Unit (Palapes) cadet Syamsul Haris Shamsudin’s family has handed over new evidence to the police regarding the trainee’s death.
Lawyer Datuk Naran Singh said the evidence includes an audio recording saved on a USB drive, documents on the court process to obtain the second post-mortem, and photographs.
"The audio is a recording of someone who claimed to have been present when Syamsul Haris was injured and saw what happened. The person was unaware of being recorded.
The recording was given to us by another individual who made the recording," he told reporters at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) on Saturday (Aug 30).
The audio recording and transcript along with the other evidence were handed to Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Prosecution and Legal Division (D5) principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Fazley Ab Rahman.
"We hope this new evidence will give the police a credible lead in the investigation.
So far, the investigating officer has been very cooperative and helpful," he said.
On the second post-mortem, Naran said he would provide an update at 4pm.
"Once the post-mortem is done, we will proceed immediately with the burial," he added.
On Tuesday (August 26), the Shah Alam High Court directed that the remains of Syamsul Haris be exhumed as soon as possible.
He was buried at the Kampung Rinching Ulu Muslim Cemetery in Semenyih after passing away on July 28 at Kota Tinggi Hospital.
This is a day after undergoing training at the Army Combat Training Centre (Pulada) in Ulu Tiram.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail previously said the police would facilitate the exhumation for a second post-mortem, following the court order.
"This is a serious process involving magistrates, medical teams, family members, police, doctors, and related agencies. The police’s role is to ensure the court’s decision is carried out," he said.
