Tight security surrounds exhumation of UTM Palapes cadet for second post-mortem


KAJANG: Tight security, with police personnel and officers present, was seen at the Kampung Rinching Ulu Muslim Cemetery amid expectations that authorities will exhume the grave of UTM Reserve Officers’ Training Unit (Palapes) cadet Syamsul Haris Shamsudin.

The victim's family members were at the scene as early as 7am on Friday (Aug 29).

It was learnt that the exhumation was expected to take place at 8.30am to enable a second post-mortem on the victim.

The victim's mother, Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, 45, was seen entering the cemetery compound at about 7.40am.

Medical personnel from Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), as well as officers from Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID), including the Forensic Unit and the Special Investigation Unit (USJT), were among those present.

The victim's body will be sent to HKL for a second post-mortem after the exhumation has been concluded.

The court on Tuesday (Aug 26) directed that the remains of Syamsul Haris be exhumed as soon as possible. He was buried at the Kampung Rinching Ulu Muslim Cemetery in Semenyih after passing away on July 28 at the Kota Tinggi Hospital, a day after undergoing training at the Army Combat Training Centre (Pulada) in Ulu Tiram.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail previously said the police the police would facilitate the victim's exhumation of the grave of a Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Reserve Officers’ Training Unit (Palapes) cadet to allow for a second post-mortem, following a Shah Alam High Court order.

The court on Tuesday (Aug 26) directed that the remains of Syamsul Haris Shamsudin, 22, be exhumed as soon as possible. He was buried at the Kampung Rinching Ulu Muslim Cemetery in Semenyih after passing away on July 28 at the Kota Tinggi Hospital, a day after undergoing training at the Army Combat Training Centre (Pulada) in Ulu Tiram.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the police would assist with the process, including exhumation, escorting the remains to the hospital, monitoring the second post-mortem, and overseeing the reburial.
