The intensive course, in collaboration with certified parachute instructors from the police’s 69 Commando Unit, was held at the Old Airport in Tekah, Taiping, from Aug 10 to 22.
STAR commander Maritime Captain Syuzefril Mat Noor and Sabah & Sarawak Assault, Squadron leader Nik Muhamad Hafizan Nik Muhamad Zawawi were awarded their parachute wings by Bomba director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad yesterday, Bernama reported.
The MMEA said that during the training exercise, participants successfully carried out 13 jumps from a height of over 1,200m using the Mi-17-IV (M994-01) Bomba 01 aircraft as the official platform.
“The first-ever participation of STAR in this parachute course marks a historic milestone since the elite unit of the MMEA was established 20 years ago.
“It carries a major objective of strengthening the tactical capabilities and airborne expertise of STAR Team operators in special maritime missions,” the statement said.
MMEA added that this achievement signifies the strategic cooperation between STAR and the Fire and Rescue Department’s Paskub, opening a new chapter in enhancing the professionalism and readiness of the nation’s elite assets in real operational environments.
The intensive course was also joined by 15 participants from various national security agencies, including the two STAR officers, one officer from the police’s General Operations Force and Bomba personnel.
