Five polytechnic students rescued from being stranded by strong currents


IPOH: Five Sultan Azlan Shah Polytechnic students were trapped on top of a rock in the middle of a river amid strong currents for about an hour in Kampung Sungai Dara, Tanjung Malim.

A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the five students, identified as Wan Mohammad Faisal Wan Zulharman, Ahmad Afdzal Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Fakhrul Aiman Badrun Munir, Muhammad Arman Firdaus Fadzrul Izzad and Nik Amsyar Iqmal Hamdi Nik Asif, were believed to have been stranded on top of the rock on Thursday (Aug 21) from 6.55pm.

"They were playing in the waters before a water surge phenomenon hit, following a downpour.

"They were rescued by firemen and are in good condition," the spokesman said in a statement.

"They have been handed over to the police for the next course of action," he said, adding that the operation ended at 8.35pm.
