Day in court: Zulazren being escorted to the Magistrate’s court to be charged.
SEREMBAN: A cook has been charged with fatally stabbing a 28-year-old man who allegedly had an affair with his wife.
No plea was recorded from the accused, Zulazren Zakariah, after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli.
The 31-year-old was charged with stabbing Muhammad Amirul Rashid Mohd Niza in the chest with a knife at a house in Taman Seri Pagi.
The alleged offence was committed around 6.50pm on Aug 11.
The accused was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Offenders can be sent to the gallows or jailed between 30 and 40 years and whipped a minimum of 12 times, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur ‘Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi asked the court for a mention date as the chemist, post-mortem and DNA reports were not ready.
The court fixed Oct 17 for mention.
The magistrate told the accused, who was unrepresented, that the court was not offering him bail as it was a murder charge.
When met outside the court later, a brother of the accused appealed to Internet users to stop posting comments on the case as it is under investigation.
He said the accused is the youngest of 15 siblings and has two young children with his wife.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, a 40-year-old man was sentenced to two years’ jail by the same court here after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting his wife.
Mohd Khairol Mohd Abu admitted to committing the offence at around 1pm on June 6 at their home in Lenggeng near here.
K. Kogilawani from the Legal Aid Department, who represented the accused, pleaded for a light sentence as the accused only does odd jobs and has to provide for five children, one of whom has special needs.
According to the facts of the case, the victim suffered swelling on her body after she was assaulted by her husband.
Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur ‘Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi asked that a suitable sentence be given to the accused.
