Cook charged with murdering wife's lover

SEREMBAN: A cook has been charged with the fatal stabbing of a 28-year-old man who allegedly had an affair with his wife.

No plea was recorded from 31-year-old Zulazren Zakariah after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli here on Tuesday (Aug 19).

The father of two young children was charged with stabbing Muhammad Amirul Rashid Mohd Niza in the chest at a house in Taman Seri Pagi at 6.50pm on Aug 11.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder carries a possible death sentence, or between 30 and 40 years' jail with at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur 'Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi asked the court for a next mention date as the chemist's, post-mortem and DNA test reports were not ready.

Magistrate Nurul Saqinah then fixed Oct 17 for mention of the case.

The court did not offer bail.

A relative of the accused, when met after the proceeding, appealed to social media users to stop commenting on the case as it was now a court matter.

It was reported earlier that a suspect was arrested in connection with the stabbing.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect committed the alleged act after discovering his wife's affair.

They added that the suspect had no criminal record and tested negative for drugs.
