SEPANG: Ninety-eight Bangladeshi nationals have been denied entry into the country after failing to meet immigration requirements.
This follows continuous inspections by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on Friday (Aug 15).
The operation was carried out between 1am and 7.30am at the international arrival hall, where 181 foreign visitors were screened and questioned.
"Several of those denied entry had just landed on flights from Dhaka in the early hours of the day.
"We believe some deliberately choose late-night or early-morning arrivals to avoid routine inspection," the AKPS said in a statement on Friday.
Among the reasons for the refusal of entry were the use of fake hotel bookings, absence of return tickets, and inability to prove they had sufficient finances.
"All 98 individuals were suspected of intending to misuse their visit passes to live and work in Malaysia illegally," the agency said.
AKPS reaffirmed that it would continue to detect, detain and deport unqualified foreign visitors in order to safeguard the nation's security and sovereignty.
