JOHOR BARU: Johor has recorded a major decline in cumulative dengue cases with 4,140 in epidemiological week 32 this year compared with 9,831 cases in the corresponding period last year.
State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the decline in the dengue cases represented a 57.9% drop in cases recorded.
He said from the 4,140 cases, 1,309 (31.6%) were locality cases, while 2,831 cases (68.4%) were non-locality cases.
“The cumulative death cases also declined by 50% to seven in epidemiological week 32 this year, against 14 cumulative cases recorded in week three, last year,’’ Ling said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 14).
He said Johor Baru district has the highest number of cases with 68 (66%), followed by Kulai (12, 11.7%), Kluang (seven cases, 6.8%), and Batu Pahat (six cases, 5.8%).
Ling added Pontian recorded four cases or 3.9%, Kota Tinggi with three or 2.9%, Muar (two, 1.9%) and Tangkak with one case or 1.0%.
“There were no cases reported in both Segamat and Mersing districts,’’ he said.
He said the seven dengue hotspots in Johor Baru district were Bandar, Jelutong, Plentong, Pulai, Sungai Tiram, Tebrau and Tanjung Kupang in Gelang Patah.
