A STUDENT who made history when she became the first Orang Asli in Kelantan to score 8As in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination has taken the next step towards becoming an English teacher, Kosmo! reported.

Nur Syafienaz Nazri, 18, enrolled in the Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL) programme at the Kota Baru Teacher Education Institute (IPG) on Monday.

“I have been passionate about English since I was a child, even though I had very little exposure to the language growing up.”

Nur Syafienaz said she began focusing on mastering English in Form Four.

“I am grateful to be able to live my childhood dream.

“I want to help other Orang Asli children gain a deeper understanding of English,” she said.

Kota Baru IPG campus director Dr Narita Mohd Noor said 529 students from across the country registered for the Bachelor of Teaching Programme this year.

> A 25-year-old Indonesian woman, previously detained for posing as a dentist, has been arrested again for offering illegal dental services in Puchong, Harian Metro reported.

The suspect, who is believed to be living in Malaysia without valid documents, was arrested by state authorties at a beauty salon on Monday.

A source said the woman had no formal dental training but was offering veneer treatments, teeth whitening and braces installation.

She operated from a salon owned by a Malaysian citizen and promoted her services on social media, charging about RM400 for veneers and RM70 to RM90 for teeth whitening.

The suspect claimed she had previously worked at another spa raided by Health Ministry in 2022, where she was taught how to fit veneers and braces.
