Cops arrest senior citizen over molest of six-year-old girl

JASIN: A hawker has been remanded for seven days on suspicion of kissing the cheek and touching the genitals of a six-year-old girl.

The remand order against the 63-year-old suspect was issued by magistrate Mazana Sinin at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to assist investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

According to a reliable source, the suspect’s actions came to light at about noon on Aug 9 after the victim’s grandmother was informed by her niece that her granddaughter had been molested and kissed by the suspect near her home in Batu 18 in Kesang Tua, here.

As soon as she stepped out of the house, the 56-year-old saw the suspect kissing her granddaughter’s cheek.

She shouted at the suspect, but he ignored her and walked away.

The grandma saw the suspect heading towards a car, and when she approached the vehicle, the female driver claimed the suspect was her mother’s employee and merely apologised before leaving the scene.

The source added that the grandma later asked her niece what had happened and was told she had seen the suspect kissing the victim’s cheek and touching her shoulder.

The suspect was also said to have attempted to give sweets to the victim, but she refused.

The suspect then allegedly held the victim and touched the child’s private parts.

Acting on the police report, a team from the Melaka police headquarters arrested the suspect on Sunday.
