Anti-vice raids arrest 288, including over 60 Myanmar GROs


PETALING JAYA: Large-scale anti-vice raids have led to the arrest of 288 suspects, including over 60 female Myanmar GROs.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M Kumar said the raids were conducted on Saturday (August 9) at 10.30 pm.

A total of 22 premises were raided, with 16 in Selangor and six in Kuala Lumpur.

“All the premises were believed to be operating without a valid licence and had been hiring foreigners illegally,” he said on Sunday (August 10).

“Of the 288 people arrested, six were storekeepers, 21 were counter supervisors, 26 were workers, and 66 Myanmar women were working as GROs,” he said.

A further 170 foreign customers were also arrested.

“They were aged between 18 and 51 and were from Myanmar, Nepal, and Bangladesh,” he added.

Items seized included liquor bottles and entertainment equipment.

“The police, especially the CID, view the operations of illegal entertainment outlets seriously,” he said.

“It not only breaks the law but could also disrupt public safety,” added Comm Kumar.

“The police will increase similar operations nationwide and will not compromise with those found involved,” he said.
