Cops received notice for Gaza support rally on Aug 9

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have received official notice for the "Malaysia Bangkit Untuk Gaza" rally on Saturday (Aug 9).

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, in a statement on Friday (Aug 8), said the police had been informed that around 5,000 people will attend the rally organised by the Sekretariat Humanity 4 Gaza.

"The rally is expected to be joined by NGOs, students and the public with meeting points at Masjid Negara, Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul and the Sogo shopping centre before heading towards Dataran Merdeka.

"The police estimate road congestion heading towards the city centre as the rally moves towards the affected areas.

ACP Sulizmie, however, said traffic control will be conducted to ensure the smooth handling of the group's movement.

"The police urge all to cooperate fully with the policemen stationed for traffic control while also obeying the law throughout its duration.

"Strict action will be taken on individuals or groups that create provocation and disturbances," he said.

Around 20 NGOs are expected to participate in the rally, scheduled to take place from 4pm to 11pm.
