The Prime Minister’s Office said that it has taken note of the Pagoh MP’s statement denying allegations that he had defended the rights of foreigners concerning the issue of petrol subsidies.

On Tuesday, Muhyiddin issued a statement linking him to efforts to protect the rights of foreigners in the subsidy programme.

The former prime minister branded the allegations as lies and slander.

Muhyiddin said the country's fuel subsidies have always been for Malaysians and not for non-citizens.

This came after Anwar reportedly said that Muhyiddin had questioned the government for burdening foreigners when they had also made significant contributions to the country.

He even questioned the source Anwar had cited when making a reference in the Dewan Rakyat
