KUALA LUMPUR: Potholes reported to the Works Ministry via the MyJalan mobile app must be fixed within 24 hours, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
The deputy Works Minister said that swift action must be taken by all authorities, regardless of which jurisdiction the road falls under.
“The turnaround time to patch damaged roads under the Works Ministry is 24 hours. Other authorities are also required to fix the road within the same timeframe.
“Complaints on other damages would be resolved within 15 days,” he told the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Aug 6).
He said this in response to Mohamad Shafizan Kepli (GPS-Batang Lupar), who had asked the ministry to specify the turnaround time for actions to be taken once complaints are made through the MyJalan app.
Ahmad also revealed that a total of 39,371 complaints were received through the app from Aug 2023 until June 2025.
Of the total, 11,959 complaints were related to federal roads and the remaining fell under state government, local authorities and other agencies.
"There are five main factors that cause road damage, including potholes, such as weather conditions like rain, heat, and floods, that accelerate the deterioration of road surfaces.
"Other factors include overloaded heavy vehicles, the road's lifespan, and the quality of the pavement, as well as imperfect utility work," Ahmad said.
He said the ministry would also conduct a Swell Investigation to ensure soil and structural stability for elevated roads.

"For areas prone to flooding, roads will be elevated to prevent disconnection during the monsoon season," he added.
