Man who stabbed cop in KL tests positive for drugs


KUALA LUMPUR: The male suspect, who stabbed a policeman who was on a crime prevention patrol at Pudu Market, Jalan Yew here, was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack.

Kuala Lumpur acting police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the man tested positive for heroin, with the substance also found on him when he was arrested.

"Checks found that the individual has 14 previous offences on his criminal record, including those related to drugs and crime,”  he said when contacted on Friday (Aug 1).

DCP Usuf said the suspect, who was arrested shortly after the incident, has been remanded for seven days until next Thursday (Aug 7).

On Thursday (July 31), a policeman was seriously injured after being stabbed with a knife in the abdomen while conducting a crime prevention patrol with four other policemen.

DCP Usuf said the policeman was in stable condition but still under close observation.- Bernama
