Motorcycle convoy crash on NSE claims fourth victim


PETALING JAYA: Another student involved in the accident at KM262 on the northbound lane of the North-South Expressway on Thursday (July 24) has died, bringing the death toll to four.

Muhammad Iman Rusidi, 19, from Kolej Poly-Tech Mara Bangi, was pronounced dead at 12.30am while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Hospital Tuanku Ja'afar in Seremban, reported Sinar Harian.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din confirmed the matter, adding that investigations are still ongoing.

He also urged the public not to speculate about the incident.

It was previously reported that the accident occurred around 2.30am and involved 15 motorcycles travelling in a group along the middle and right lanes from Senawang towards Kuala Lumpur.

The incident occurred after three motorcycles at the front of the group collided with each other, causing them to fall onto the road.

"This resulted in the other 12 motorcycles coming from behind being unable to avoid the fallen motorcycles and subsequently crashing into them.

"All involved riders then fell onto the road as a result of the collision.

"A car and a lorry were also hit on their rear and right side respectively by several of the fallen 12 motorcycles as a result," he said in a press statement on Thursday (July 24).

Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene, namely Afkar Fitri Afendi, 19, Aliff Syahmi Abdul Hakim, 18 and Azib Sulaiman, 20.

Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Tiew Chuan Jie, at 014-966 8399 or to visit the nearest police station to assist with the investigation.
