KOTA KINABALU: A 39-year-old man has died after the car he was driving skidded off a bridge and plunged 10m into river along Jalan Kionsom in Inanam here.
The victim is believed to have lost control of the vehicle after smashing into a roundabout near the bridge in the accident that occurred around 3.10am on Monday (July 21).
The car plunged into the river and the victim's body was later found on the riverbed.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Assist Comm Kasim Muda said medical officers at the location confirmed that the victim died from severe head and body injuries.
"The victim's body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital's forensic department for a post-mortem," he said in a statement on Monday.
"So far, no closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage or witnesses have been found.
"The investigation is still ongoing and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
