SHAH ALAM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim does not plan to take disciplinary action against PKR members who spoke out on certain issues, as everyone has the right to express their views, said PKR information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi said the Prime Minister wants PKR leaders to understand the issue and “move forward”.
“He is asking division chiefs and members to understand this matter and move on,” said Fahmi after a meeting between Anwar and Selangor PKR leaders at Shah Alam on Friday (July 18).
Fahmi said during the meeting, Anwar told party members to move on and strengthen the party.
Earlier this month, several PKR MPs led by Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli had called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into the issue of judicial appointments.
They were Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Subang MP Wong Chen, Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan, Balik Pulai MP Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail.
Fahmi said Anwar had called on PKR branch leaders to be inclusive when appointing divisional committee members, including those who did not win in the previous party elections.
“Those from the defeated groups must be united,” added Fahmi.
Fahmi also said appointments for the PKR state leadership council chairman are expected to be completed by the end of July.
“The party president has directed the party machinery to move forward from August onwards,” added Fahmi.
Recently, the Malaysian Bar held a peaceful walk to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) at the Palace of Justice.
It handed over a memorandum to the PMO, calling for the judicial leadership positions to be filled as soon as possible and for the establishment of an RCI to investigate possible judicial interference.
The Chief Justice position became vacant after Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim reached the mandatory retirement age of 66 on July 2 and 3.
On Friday (July 18), His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, approved the appointments of three top judicial figures, including Court of Appeal judge Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh as the new Chief Justice of the Federal Court.
Also appointed were Federal Court Judges Datuk Abu Bakar Jais as the President of the Court of Appeal and Datuk Azizah Nawawi as the Chief Judge of the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak, replacing the outgoing Chief Judge who is set to retire.
