Ayer Hitam toll plaza entry lane closed due to chemical spill

JOHOR BARU: The entry lane to the Ayer Hitam toll plaza has been closed to all vehicles after a barrel containing hazardous and corrosive chemicals fell from a trailer Wednesday (June 25) evening.

PLUS Malaysia (PLUS) said the lane had been temporarily closed by the Fire and Rescue Department for safety reasons following the 6.41pm incident.

"As of 9.28pm, the entry lane to the Ayer Hitam toll plaza remains temporarily closed," it said in a Facebook post Wednesday.

As such, PLUS advises the public to plan their journeys and use alternative routes.

The public can get the latest traffic updates on the X account @plustrafik or the PLUS Malaysia Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani, when contacted by Bernama, said that the lane was still closed to all vehicles as of 10.30pm, due to safety factors.

"The lane is still not open," he replied briefly, adding that the chemical spilt was Urea Formaldehyde Concentrate. - Bernama
