Kedah storm leaves trail of fallen trees, blocked roads

ALOR SETAR: Several trees were toppled leading to traffic disruption in multiple areas following a freak storm that swept through parts of Kedah on Monday (June 23) night.

According to a statement from the Civil Defence Force (APM), at least six trees were reported to have fallen in the Sik district due to strong winds and heavy rain. Some of the trees blocked roads and affected traffic flow in the affected areas.

One major incident occurred along the North-South Expressway where a fallen tree was reported between the Gurun and Alor Setar stretch.

Videos shared online showed the tree blocking both lanes of the highway causing a significant traffic jam.

APM added that the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecasted a likelihood of more thunderstorms throughout the week.

It said the storms are expected mainly in the afternoons particularly in the interior parts of Kedah and may persist until Saturday (June 28).
