Don’t accept party-hoppers, Khaled Nordin says to unity government allies

BATU PAHAT: Unity government parties should reject political defectors to preserve cohesion among coalition partners, says Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

He stressed that accepting party-hoppers would disrupt the harmony that binds the current government.

“What’s important is that our friends refrain from accepting party-hoppers. That is the message I want to convey,” he said.

“If everyone respects this, we can maintain harmony among all the parties in the unity government,” he said during the Batu Pahat Umno division delegates meeting on Sunday (June 22).

Mohamed Khaled also urged Umno members to remain loyal, particularly as Johor prepares for upcoming elections and the nation moves closer to the next general polls.

“Before we face the people, we must first ensure loyalty within our ranks,” he said.

“It’s unfortunate that we still have leaders who choose to jump ship. I believe they do so not out of conviction or struggle, but in pursuit of titles, positions, and personal gain,” he added, warning members not to follow suit.

On May 30, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz announced that he was leaving Umno to join PKR.

The Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said he had tendered his resignation as an Umno supreme council member, Kota Raja division leader, and party member.
