Two lives lost after father’s fatal heart attack

MELAKA: A three-month-old baby boy died after his face was pinned by his father’s arm at their home in Kampung Perigi Hang Tuah here.

The infant, Muhammad Nur Daniel Nuruleffendy, was found beneath the arm of his 35-year-old father, Nuruleffendy Ibrahim, who was found unresponsive by his wife at about 9.30am yesterday.

Azura Abdul Malik said she had planned to take their baby for his immunisation after returning home.

“I found my husband unconscious and my son lying beneath his arm.

“There were no injuries or signs of bleeding, and I immediately contacted the hospital for assistance,” she said.

However, Nuruleffendy was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Azura, who is a mother of three, said at the time of the incident, the baby was still alive but in a weak condition.

“My son was rushed to Hospital Melaka. He passed away while receiving medical treatment,” she said.

Bukit Katil Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Supian Md Dali said that a distress call was received from the hospital at 9.58am.

He said initial reports indicated that the father had died at the scene while the baby succumbed at the hospital.

Mohd Supian said the hospital had requested the fire department to inspect the home for any gas leaks.

“However, after an investigation, it was concluded that the man had likely died of a heart attack.

“Assistance from the Hazmat (hazardous materials) Unit was subsequently stood down,” he added.

Meanwhile, Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar ruled out foul play in the death of the mechanic.

“Investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of death,” Mohd Supian said.

He added that police personnel found the deceased lying on his bed in one of the rooms with his right hand pinning the infant’s face.
