New IGP to leverage AI in modernising police force

KUALA LUMPUR: Adoption of artificial intelligence is one of the key areas that newly appointed Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail will examine as he takes over command of the police force.

“I believe I will carry on the legacy of my predecessor and that this will be an opportunity for me to increase the police’s capabilities in combating crimes, including cross-border crimes.

"God willing, I hope to also carry the force into greater heights in line with the changes of modernisation.

“The use of artificial intelligence is an initiative we must promote to enhance the force's capabilities in addressing various issues and threats,” he said when met after the “beating of retreat” ceremony for outgoing IGP Tan Sri Razarudin Husain on Friday (June 20).

Mohd Khalid said he would start work immediately.

"Yes, in a way, I have already started," he said.

The country's new top cop also saluted all police officers and personnel, who are always committed to doing their best daily.

"I believe they have sacrificed time and energy for the sake of the police force," he added.
