Three-year-old girl drowns in irrigation canal


JERTIH: A three-year-old girl was found drowned in an irrigation canal in Kampung Kundur, Bukit Kenak near here on Monday (June 16).

Besut OCPD Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said the child is believed to have fallen into the canal while playing alone behind her grandmother’s house, about 70m from the waterway.

"At about 6pm, the victim was said to have left her grandmother’s house by the back door and was playing alone without anyone noticing.

"Her uncle found her floating in the canal at 6.10pm, about 300m away.

"She was taken to Hospital Besut, where she was pronounced dead," he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 17).

He added that a post-mortem was conducted today and the case was currently classified as sudden death. – Bernama
