Bus driver tests positive for drug at JPJ roadblock

KUALA LUMPUR: An express bus driver found himself in hot water after he failed a drug test during a road block here by the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ).

Kuala Lumpur JPJ director Hamidi Adam, at a press conference at the Gombak JPJ station here, said that the driver, in his thirties, had tested positive for morphine after being stopped during the roadblock on Tuesday (June 10).

“The bus that he was driving was then taken over by the second driver. That driver tested negative,” he said.

On the roadblocks, Hamidi said that as of June 9, the JPJ special operation for Hari Raya Aidiladha had seen a total of 33,988 vehicles inspected, with 26 vehicles seized.

A total of 2,437 notices were also issued in that same time frame.

Around 625 vehicles had been issued summons for invalid or expired licenses. A further 718 were for technical issues such as worn tires or brake issues.
