Buffalo goes missing — then so does its owner

KOTA KINABALU: A headmaster’s search for his missing buffalo turned into a rescue operation for himself.

Ag Ku Jainuddin Ag Wahab, 52, was last seen walking into the forest near Kampung Nabahan in Weston, Beaufort, on Thursday morning after his buffalo wandered into the woods.

His younger brother, Ag Ku Zaidin, filed a report yesterday when the headmaster at a primary school in Sipitang failed to return home.

The Civil Defence Force said an integrated search and rescue operation was launched at 8.40am involving the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Kampung Lubok volunteer firefighters and villagers.

After hours of combing the forest, rescuers found Ag Ku Jainuddin about 500m from the checkpoint near the riverbank boat docking area.

“The operation was called off at 3pm,” the Civil Defence Force said in a statement yesterday.

It is not immediately known if he managed to find the buffalo.
