Fahmi: MCMC to monitor e-cigarette sales on social media platforms

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will monitor the sale of electronic cigarette products, including vapes, on social media, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister stated that authorities have discovered many of these sales are occurring on platforms such as Facebook, with some also being conducted via WhatsApp.

"MCMC will prepare a report and my ministry will present it to the Cabinet for further discussion," he told a post-Cabinet meeting press conference on Thursday (June 5).

Fahmi said that any enforcement action would involve other parties, including the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.

When asked if the government plans to review the laws related to the sale of such products, he said it falls under the purview of the Health Ministry.

Currently, several states, including Johor, Kelantan and Terengganu, have banned the sale of e-cigarettes.
