Man arrested for assaulting father in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested a 23-year-old for assaulting his biological father, leaving the victim with serious facial injuries, following a misunderstanding on Sunday (June 1).

Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the suspect, who does not have valid travel documents, was picked up at a workers’ residential area, nearly two hours after a report was lodged against him.

“The incident occurred at around 9.15pm at a house in Kampung Pitas, Bombalai. Initial investigation revealed that the son had suddenly punched his father, in his 60s, on the face and head.

“It is still unknown why the attack happened,” said Jasmin.

He added that the suspect attempted to flee during the arrest but was apprehended following a brief struggle.

The suspect is currently being held for further investigation under Sections 323/326A of the Penal Code.

Jasmin also advised the public to be aware of mental health and emotional issues within families, and to resolve conflicts maturely and responsibly.
