ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police arrested a man within just three hours after he allegedly attempted to rob two Chinese nationals at their home in Gelang Patah here.
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said police received a report from a 14-year-old victim at around 1.34pm on Sunday (June 1) regarding the attempted robbery.
“The victim, together with her grandmother, who is in her 70s, was at home when the suspect entered the house at around 11.30am and tried to rob them,” he said on Monday (June 2).
ACP Kumarasan added that the suspect demanded valuables from the girl and proceeded to choke her, prompting a struggle between him and both victims.
“The commotion forced the suspect to flee the scene. Unfortunately, both victims sustained injuries during the incident and were later referred to the hospital for medical treatment,” he said.
Based on public information, police arrested a 33-year-old local man on the same day at around 2.30pm.
Following the arrest, police also recovered clothing believed to have been worn during the incident, including a T-shirt and a pair of shorts.
ACP Kumarasan said initial checks revealed that the suspect has two prior criminal records, but he tested negative for drugs.
He added that the suspect is currently being held under a seven-day remand until this Sunday (June 8) to assist with investigations under Section 394 of the Penal Code.
ACP Kumarasan also praised the public for their cooperation, which was instrumental in the swift arrest.
“We deeply appreciate the prompt information provided by the public, as their assistance enabled us to capture the suspect within just three hours. We remain committed to curbing all forms of crime in the district,” he said.
