Education Ministry issues dress code, social media guidelines for teachers

PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry has issued a dress code and guidelines on the use of social media for teachers.

In a circular dated May 30, the ministry advised teachers to use social media responsibly and ethically.

"Any posts, photos or videos that are seen as indecent, could create negative perspectives as well as could be damaging to one's self-image, education institution, district education offices, state education department and the ministry, are prohibited" it said.

Teachers are also prohibited from circulating content that is provocative, fake, sensitive, 3R matters (royalty, religion and race) and politics.

They are also not allowed to share any internal matters related to their respective organisations which could create tension.

The same circular also outlined a dress code for teachers, which prohibits revealing or "figure-hugging" outfits.

Teachers are required to be dressed in decent, neat and appropriate attire, which exudes moral values, work ethic and the integrity of the teaching profession.

The circular was signed by Education deputy director-general of school operations, Zainal Abas.
